CTAG welcomes the Chinese ambassador to Spain

La delegación diplomática encabezada por Lyu Fan, durante la visita a las instalaciones de CTAG

A diplomatic delegation led by Lyu Fan, the People’s Republic of China’s Ambassador to Spain, visited CTAG’s facilities with representatives of IGAPE.

After a welcome meeting, they visited different areas. The ambassador had the opportunity to see first-hand some of CTAG’s new testing equipment, such as the new climatic chambers and the battery laboratory. In addition, the ambassador tried one of the autonomous vehicle prototypes developed by CTAG, in which he was able to see the degree of development and the capabilities in the area of ADAS and automated driving.

This visit has helped to promote the Galician automotive sector and possible collaborations with one of the emerging markets with more international projection.

CTAG collaborates in the first 5G cross-border data connection in mobility in the world

5G

This is a demonstration of the potential of 5G carried out by Vodafone España and Vodafone Portugal together with Ericsson, in which, apart from CTAG, Groupe PSA and the Xunta de Galicia also participated as prominent partners of Vodafone and Ericsson in the joint development of future applications for Autonomous and Connected Vehicle, whose tests use the Porto-Vigo European corridor.

The event was led by professional e-sports players Ricardo “Fox” Pacheco and Toni “Tojor” Jordá, who completed the journey between Tui (Spain) and Valença de Minho (Portugal) in separate cars while playing PUBG Mobile in their tablets. During this journey, the e-sports players enjoyed the advantages of 5G, with a stable and interruption-free connection at the border crossing.

The demonstration has been done on Vodafone’s pre-commercial network using Ericsson’s network core infrastructure and radio systems, as well as eight 5G antennas. The antennas were installed in existing base stations in Portugal and Spain. In addition, Massive MIMO and other technologies in development have been used for this demonstration. These are two of the innovations that will allow the development of the new generation of mobile communications, providing greater capabilities and efficiency.

In this project, CTAG’s participation has focused on the vehicle’s data processing and cooperative safety services, in addition to working on the integration of the 5G receiver and the screens used.

CTAG visits the biggest congress for automotive battery experts in Europe

Representatives of CTAG visit these days the Battery Experts Forum, which takes place in Frankfurt from April 10 to 12. It is the largest conference on technology for automotive batteries in Europe, in which more than 100 experts in the sector are participating. The congress also has an exhibition space in which more than 80 companies show their latest solutions, designs and products.

One of the great attractions of the Battery Experts Forum is that it addresses aspects of great importance regarding mass production of electric vehicles. For CTAG, it is especially interesting to know the sector’s vision in terms of safety, recycling, sustainability, testing and validation, since the electric vehicle is one of its strategic R&D areas.

This congress will also make it possible to establish possible contacts for future projects. Another objective pursued by CTAG attending this congress is to delve into technical issues related to battery packs for electric vehicles.

CTAG celebrates Spanish-Portuguese General Assembly of the 5G Mobix project

Fotografía de los participantes en 5GMOBIX

Within the framework of the 5GMOBIX European Project, the General Assembly takes place today at CTAG between the Spanish and Portuguese partners, which is one of the main pilots of the 5GMOBIX project. The objective is to prepare the different milestones of the project, and to define the joint strategy for the deployment of 5G technology which will take place in the coming months.

The purpose of the 5GMOBIX project is to specify, deploy and evaluate 5G services that will support Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM), defining in this way different use cases of Connected and Autonomous Driving that will use 5G technology as the communication base channel to improve the safety and comfort of the services deployed in the vehicles.

The corridor between Vigo and Oporto is the most important cross-border corridor where the tests defined within the scope of the project will be carried out. With the collaboration of the different partners it will be possible to carry out all the necessary deployment in the different parts that are covered: infrastructure, communications, telephony, vehicles, users, etc.

Thus, this corridor includes partners that cover the complete value chain, including public institutions, research centres, telecom companies and car manufacturers.

DGT, IMT, Telefónica, NOS, Nokia Bell Labs, Nokia Portugal, Vigo City Council, CTAG, Dekra, ALSA, AEVAC, University of Murcia, CCG, Infraestruturas de Portugal, Norte Litoral, Siemens, IT, TIS and A-To-B, form this Spanish-Portuguese consortium with the aim of strengthening the development of 5G technology and Autonomous Driving, which will become  reality in the coming years.

The first tests of the 5GMOBIX project will begin at the end of 2019, starting with tests in the laboratory and test tracks, arriving on the road throughout 2020. The tests will be extended until 2021 when the project will end.

CTAG Joins the Consortium in DECOAT, a new H2020 Project Addressing the Recycling of Coated and Painted Textile and Plastic Materials

DECOAT

The EU-funded Project, in which CTAG is a key partner, held a kick off meeting on 20-21 February 2019 at the EU Commission in Brussels, Belgium. The project consortium, led by Belgian R&D centre CENTEXBEL, consists of 17 partners from across Europe from across the value chain including design, manufacturing, NGOs, and research and innovation.

The focus of the consortium is on coated and painted textiles and plastic materials which are not currently recyclable. Ambitious plastic recycling targets of 50% have been set by the European Plastics Industry, and to meet these targets, smart solutions to enable the circular use of textile and plastic parts with multi-layer coatings must be considered. Many materials consist of more than one chemical component, hindering their recyclability, such as coated and laminated products. Ideally, all the components of an object after its end-of-life should be separated and fed to the most suited recycling streams.

DECOAT has therefore been established to investigate triggerable smart polymer material systems and appropriate recycling processes. The solutions will be based on smart additives (like microcapsules or microwave triggered additives) for the ‘coating’ formulations that will be activated by a specific trigger (heat, humidity, microwave, chemical).

The bold aim of the four-year project is to decrease landfilling of ca. 75% of the coated parts considered in the DECOAT use cases, which cover clothing, electronic goods and automotive. A reduction in the carbon footprint by at least 30% for the considered products is aimed for. By enabling the recycling of such materials, DECOAT is expected to generate on medium term a novel market of over 150 million in Europe.

DECOAT is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 814505 For more information on the project, visit www.decoat.eu

CTAG present at the European Robotics Forum (ERF2019)

European Robotics Forum 2019

CTAG present at the European Robotics Forum (ERF2019)

Representatives of CTAG visit Bucharest these days to participate in the European Robotics Forum. This is the most influential meeting of the robotic community in Europe, which brings together researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs and other professionals in the sector to discuss current issues in European robotics. Specialists from more than 40 countries attend this year’s edition, with a special focus on innovation strategies and on the future impact of robotics in the world.

The industrial exoskeleton is one of the research areas in the Factory of the Future and Industry 4.0 at CTAG, where tests with diverse prototypes are carried out with the objective of improving the conditions of the worker in industrial plants.

The process can be divided into four phases: solution identification, laboratory validation, pilot testing and in-line testing. CTAG has implemented this test process in assembly plants for four exoskeletons, with different applications for the back, shoulder and hand. One of these projects has recently been awarded, together with Groupe PSA, recognising the work of both organisations in the development and implementation of a methodology that allows the validation of exoskeletons as support systems for industrial production line workers.

The event is held on March 20, 21 and 22 in Bucharest (Romania).
