PEMS, new equipment for the engine laboratory

CTAG already has a PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement System), a device capable of monitoring operating data of the vehicle on which it is instrumented in real time, allowing the analysis of consumption and emissions under real driving situations.

This new system complements the testing equipment of CTAG’s engine laboratory, which works in the field of engine validation and in R&D activities on propulsion systems.

The PEMS has a series of analysers capable of providing values of exhaust flow, fuel consumption, and CO, CO2, NO, NO2 and number of particles present in the vehicle exhaust gases. The system also has access to OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) data of commercial vehicles, as well as configurable acquisition channels that allow adapting and increasing the instrumentation according to the needs of each project. The monitoring is completed with the GPS position of the vehicle at all times, in addition to the environmental conditions of pressure, temperature and relative humidity.

The device is accompanied by real-time route validity control software, as well as data postprocessing for the analysis of consumption and emission results in accordance with current regulations: RDE-LDV (EU) 2017/1151 and 2018/1832 in Europe and US-EPA 40 CFR part 1065 for the United States.

The availability of routes that comply with the aforementioned regulations near CTAG’s facilities, combining urban, rural and motorway routes, together with the versatility of the measuring equipment, make the PEMS a powerful tool that allows CTAG’s engine laboratory to face new horizons and increase the offer of services.
