The working meeting of the KIC-EIT Urban Mobility Initiative South Innovation Hub was held yesterday at CTAG. This initiative was approved last December by the European Commission.
The KIC Consortium Innovation Manager attended the meeting, where innovative ideas were shared in order to respond to the challenges of urban mobility from different perspectives, cities, universities, technology centres, mobility service providers and car manufacturers.
The 25 participants were able to visit CTAG’s facilities and particularly check the results of the various European research projects carried out by the Centre in the field of mobility.
The MOBiLus consortium has been designated as the winning Innovation Community on Urban Mobility by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
The EIT has appointed the MOBiLus consortium to develop one of its innovation communities, the “Knowledge Innovation Community (KIC) on Urban Mobility”. This consortium consists of 48 partners from 15 countries: 13 cities, 18 universities and technology centres and 17 large companies focused on mobility, including CTAG, BMW, SEAT, Siemens, TomTom, Oracle, Fraunhofer, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, University College London, etc.
EIT Innovation Communities are public-private partnerships whose objective is to find solutions to major societal challenges in areas with high innovation potential, in this case Urban Mobility.
The aim of MOBiLus is to strengthen European competitiveness, improve access to mobility and increase attractiveness of cities under the motto “Mobility for Liveable Urban Spaces”.
The MOBiLus approach addresses five strategic objectives:
Being Europe’s driver for knowledge and innovation in mobility
Training the next generation of urban mobility practitioners
Leveraging and upgrading ideas for deployment
Accelerating tomorrow’s mobility services and solutions to the market
Replicate and scale new mobility solutions to Europe and beyond
This project will be managed by the headquarters in Barcelona, along with four other innovation hubs in Europe, Copenhagen (Denmark), Prague (Czech Republic), Munich (Germany) and Helmond (The Netherlands). In the next seven years, the EIT will directly contribute 400 million euros to this initiative.
First results can be expected in 2020.
Since its inception, CTAG is in the origin or is an active member of several local, national and European projects, providing the automotive sector with its experience and R&D&I capabilities. Currently, it participates in more than 50 collaborative projects, 25 at European level. CTAG has been working on the consortium candidacy for 2 years.
