Development of automotive plastic components with sensor function integrated in smart textile

The adoption of novel lighter and more compact and ecofriendly solutions for the design of components in the automobile sector becomes an added value that means a fundamental part in the development of new concept cars. Within this line is placed the SMARTCOVER project, leaded by CTAG in collaboration with AIMPLAS and CETEMMSA and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). SMARTCOVER aims to establish the “Assembly Design” methodology in the design of a button panel from a

vehicle door, integrating the fabric, the button panel and the armrest support in only one part by means of the combination of a sensor textile with tactile properties, a protector covering and a back-injected thermoplastic support.
