CTAG collaborates in the virtual edition of the largest international conference on wearable robotics

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON WEARABLE ROBOTICS AND WEARRACON EUROPE International Conference on neurorehabilitation

The 5th International Symposium on Wearable Robotics and WearRAcon Europe will be held through a revolutionary virtual platform from October 13 to 16, 2020.

Researchers, experts, manufacturers and end users from all over the world will be able to meet one more year to share their latest innovations and participate in workshops, demonstrations and exhibitions in a different way.

The event consists of two congresses in parallel, the International Symposium on Wearable Robotics and WearRAcon Europe, with an industrial focus, and the International Conference on Neurorehabilitation, with a medical focus. The organising committee, in which CSIC, CTAG, WEARRACON EUROPE, NRG and AbilityLab participate, considers that in such an exceptional situation as the one we are experiencing, in which technology plays a crucial role, it is important to enhance the reach of this type of events and keep the debate around scientific and technological advances open, in this case in the field of robotics and neuroscience and their application in the medical and industrial sectors.

In addition, the event will feature a specific conference on the automotive sector which will take place at CTAG. This edition aims to give greater emphasis and presence to the automotive sector, reinforcing the impact on Industry 4.0, promoting processes automation and reinforcing the technology that facilitates ergonomics in the workplace.

CTAG will develop new robotic solutions for manual tasks within the TRAINMAN-MAGOS Project

Although the use of industrial robotics in the automotive industry is mainstream, there are still parts of the production process which need human intervention, especially in manipulating fragile parts or while assembling components which demand increased dexterity. These manual tasks increase the production time and reduce the flexibility of the production line and the quality of the end product. TRAINMAN-MAGOS aims to deal with this challenge by providing a novel, agile and flexible solution.

CTAG, together with the Greek company Quanta and Qualia, will develop an innovative solution that will make it possible to optimize the robotic programming of complex trajectories carried out by the hand of the operator. It will also improve ergonomics by eliminating operations with high muscle loads due to complex movements.

More than 1,500 researchers from CTAG and TECNALIA will work together on the mobility of the future

The two leading technology centres in Spain have reached an agreement to offer their joint expertise and face the challenges of advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and robotics in the mobility  sector. These are the Automotive Technology Centre of Galicia (CTAG) and the research and technological development centre TECNALIA, which have sealed their collaboration with the virtually formalised signature of an agreement between Óscar Fernández Besteiro, president of CTAG, and Emiliano López Atxurra, president of TECNALIA.

The objective of the collaboration in which more than 1,500 researchers from both centres will work together, is to propose comprehensive services to complement the offer and capacities of the companies in the sector. To do so, CTAG and TECNALIA will offer companies new solutions and results through R&D and Innovation projects in the fields of mobility and advanced manufacturing, as well as activities that foster the creation of new technology-based companies. They will also be able to share the state-of-the-art facilities at each centre and move forward together in the provision of advanced services.

It is worth highlighting the following initiatives: first of all, as a result of the knowledge and experience of both centres in the field of robotics and exoskeletons, new solutions to improve the ergonomic conditions of operators will be developed. Secondly, new developments for the automation of special vehicles in different environments, such as ports, airports and industrial estates will be enhanced. They will also implement a joint strategy for the development of the electric car and its components, among others.

Furthermore, through this collaboration, both organisations will strengthen and increase their talent volume in areas of specialisation, such as the automotive industry, manufacturing or digitalisation, becoming a national and European benchmark in these areas.

CTAG provides two autonomous driving demonstrations in Versailles

Representación de CTAg que realiza las pruebas de conducción autónomaNext Thursday, February 6, AUTOPILOT’s Final Event will be held in Versailles, France, at mobiLAB and PSA Motorsports. The AUTOPILOT project explores and evaluates the contribution of new communication technologies, such as IoT (Internet of Things) or V2X (Vehicle to Everything), at the service of autonomous driving. This three-year research project is funded by the Horizon 2020 program (GA 731993) and developed in five European cities, including Vigo, and in a South Korean city. The Spanish part of the consortium is led by CTAG with the collaboration of Groupe PSA and Vigo City Council.

CTAG will provided two demonstrations on the VEDECOM test track of the use cases developed in Vigo with the AUTOPILOT I vehicle: Automated Valet Parking and Urban Driving, (the first tests of autonomous driving in urban environment performed in Spain, presented together with Groupe PSA and Vigo City Council last July).

In addition, Diego Bernárdez, Head of Connectivity and HMI at CTAG, will participate in the closing session of the results presentation.

CTAG presents the preliminary results of the CRUSOE project

CTAG presented the first results of the CRUSOE project within the framework of the C-MobILE TestFest, held from December 2 to 4 at the Centre’s facilities.

CRUSOE, financed under the 2018 call of the CEF Telecom programme managed by INEA, aims to prepare vehicle communications equipment (OBUs and RSUs) and the resilience of communication flows in 5G V2X scenarios. The results of the project will be validated by controlled tests in the SISCOGA cross-border 5G corridor.

The presentation of results, by Carlos Pérez Garrido (Electronics and Intelligent Transport Systems Division) and Jorge Fontenla González (Technological Innovation), aroused great interest among attendees given the central role that cybersecurity will play in the mobility of future.

CTAG obtains promising results in the CO-GUIDING project

COVR projectCTAG has achieved the first milestone within the CO-GUIDING project. This project has been funded by COVR (H2020, GA No. 779966) in its first open call to perform a risk analysis in the automotive use case called “Safety in Collaborative Assisted Guiding of Automotive Door Assembly System [CDAS]”. It is an operation in which the robot takes care of the weight and accuracy of the door assembly, while the operator handles the complex trajectories and the finished quality.

CTAG has proposed a safety evaluation criterion that can help to validate the safety requirements (in three parameters: force and power, load and movement speed) with the specifications of the proposed use case. The tests have focused on three main factors: the safety of the operator, that of the process and, finally, the verification of the work environment safety to perform the task.

CTAG will continue to develop this project throughout 2020, when the final results will be published. The key objective is the rigorous test (similar to real manufacturing) to validate safety requirements and technical specifications (operator strength, speed and range of movement, work space and trajectories of the robot process).

CTAG participates in international forums on exoskeletons

CTAG attends Humanoids 2019, the International Conference which is held in Toronto, Canada, on 14, 15 and 16 October. This event brings together experts in the field of robotics to analyse and explain the scope of the latest research on humanoid robotics. The conference will feature the participation of Jawad Masood, who works at CTAG’s Factory of the Future department and who will contribute CTAG’s experience in the development and implementation of exoskeleton validation methodologies as support systems for industrial production line workers.

In addition, CTAG will go once again to EXO Berlin, one of the most relevant events at the international level for experts in exoskeletons, wearable devices, biomechanics and collaborative robotics. This conference is aimed at engineers, researchers and other professionals in the industrial and academic sector, who will meet in Berlin on October 22 and 23 to present and discuss the latest innovations and technologies aimed at enhancing human performance.

CTAG will host the first C-MobILE TESTFEST in Vigo

CTAG, in collaboration with ERTICO, ITS Europe and the consortium of the C-MobILE project, will host the first C-MobILE TESTFEST, which will take place in Vigo, from December 2 to 4.

The C-MobILE TESTFEST event is open to any C-ITS professional and to all those interested in this field in order to test the interoperability with the infrastructures implemented at CTAG and its surroundings and in the city of Vigo, in which vehicles will be able to operate through the C-MobILE deployment site.

Interested public and private organisations (public authorities, road operators, systems suppliers, service providers, vehicle manufacturers) are invited to register and take part with their own equipment (cellular devices and/or vehicles equipped with on-board units) to enjoy and test the C-MobILE services operating at the Vigo deployment site.

C-MobILE C-ITS services are equally deployed at the other C-MobILE deployment sites in Barcelona, Bilbao, Bordeaux, Copenhagen, Newcastle, North Brabant and Thessaloniki. The objective is to test the interoperability with the cellular structure and ITS-G5 deployed locally.

The services to be tested in this open event are: Road works warning (RWW), Road Hazard Warning (RHW), In-Vehicle Signage (IVS), Slow or Stationary Vehicle Warning (SSVW) and Green Light Optimised Speed Advice (GLOSA). Services will be provided using two communication channels: ITS-G5 and cellular communication with the exception of SSVW which is provided via cellular only.

CTAG presents its capabilities in electronics at ELIV 2019

eliv_sistemas ADAS y vehículo autónomo y conectadoELIV 2019 is an international congress that brings together experts in automotive electronics and presents the most relevant innovations, developments and challenges in the sector. ELIV has become a meeting place for manufacturers, suppliers, universities and researchers from all over the world. It is held in Bonn, Germany, every two years and this time it will take place on October 16 and 17 at the Bonn World Conference Center.

You will be able to find CTAG at stand 162, where representatives of the Electronics and Intelligent Transport Systems Division will present their latest innovations in this field, as well as the most recent equipment and facilities of the Centre, which has made great progress in ADAS systems and in autonomous and connected vehicles.

CTAG has extensive experience in automobile electronics, where special attention is given to interaction concepts between technologies and the driver, electronic architecture, hardware and software development and technical and functional validation.
