These tests are part of AUTOPILOT, the European project launched at the beginning of 2017 which explores and evaluates the contribution of new communication technologies, such as IoT (Internet of Things) or V2X (Vehicle to Everything), at the service of autonomous driving. The project is developed in five European cities, including the city of Vigo.
The tests carried out in Vigo focus on automated parking in car parks (with a demonstration in the City Hall parking lot), and autonomous driving in urban areas (with a demonstration in Gran Vía avenue) in which the following situations are studied: adjustment to the optimal speed when approaching a traffic light and protection of vulnerable users. Thanks to the communication with the infrastructure, both urban driving situations tested contribute to the anticipation and adjustment of the vehicle speed, for a safer, more fluid and eco-responsible controlled driving, generating new mobility experiences.
