CTAG showcases its latest advances in sustainable mobility in Barcelona

We are happy to announce CTAG’s attendance on 05, 06 and 07 June 2023 at the world’s leading event for public transport: the UITP Global Transport Summit in Barcelona.

This congress will bring together more than 15,000 international visitors and 380 exhibitors on more than 40,000 m² of exhibition space to showcase the latest innovations in the sector.

CTAG will participate for the first time in this fair with a stand where visitors will be able to see our 100% electric shuttle, connected and with a level of autonomy 4, a vehicle that controls the conditions of the environment in which it is located, defining the route and responding to any situation.

La unidad mixta GTEST CTAG-BORGWARNER concluye sus actividades de investigación

La Unidad Mixta de Investigación (UMI) GTEST, impulsada por CTAG y BorgWarner, finaliza su recorrido tras 4 anualidades de ejecución. GTEST se ha enfocado hacia la investigación y desarrollo en nuevos productos electrónicos vinculados a la gestión térmica para la electrificación del transporte, de la mano del amplio potencial existente en materia de electronificación y control de sistemas y su contribución al progreso de la movilidad sostenible.

Así, en el marco de la UMI GTEST los esfuerzos técnicos se han volcado en generar una nueva área de excelencia en torno a Power Electronics, investigando sobre PCBAs avanzadas y nuevos procedimientos que garanticen unos procesos de desarrollo y validación óptimos, teniendo en cuenta los exigentes estándares del sector de automoción.

De forma complementaria, el apoyo de la Unidad Mixta ha permitido que CTAG y BorgWarner dispongan de un equipo de personal investigador altamente cualificado en el ámbito de la electrónica de potencia, como disciplina clave y transversal para generar nuevas líneas de producto.

La Unidad Mixta de Investigación GTEST ha sido subvencionada por la Axencia Galega de Innovación mediante la convocatoria de “Subvencións para a creación e posta en marcha de Unidades Mixtas de Investigación” (DOG Nº 35, de 20 de febrero de 2020), y cofinanciada con cargo al Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (Feder) en el marco del programa operativo Feder Galicia 2014-2020 (código de expediente IN853A-2020/01), contando con el apoyo de la Vicepresidencia Primeira e Consellería de Economía, Industria e Innovación de la Xunta de Galicia.

CTAG recognised as Technology Center of the Year

Last week CTAG attended the IV International Congress of Energy Engineering (iENER’23) in Valencia, a national event that brings together multiple actors in fields related to Energy Engineering, such as sustainable mobility, smart cities, energy service companies…

Over the two days of the event, our Shuttle was offering regular transport services around La Marina de Valencia, allowing everyone who got on board to enjoy a new form of 100% electric, connected and autonomous mobility.

As part of this pilot, travellers were introduced to the Green Priority use case, a solution that allows the Shuttle to be connected to the traffic lights on its route, so that they change to green when they detect that the Shuttle is near.

On the other hand, at the end of the first day of the congress, the AEE ANNUAL AWARDS were presented, a ceremony in which CTAG was recognised as “Technology Center of the Year”. The award was received by Francisco José Sánchez Pons, director of our Electronics and ITS division.

We thank the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), a leading certification body for professional energy managers worldwide, for recognising our work on autonomous, connected and electric vehicles and towards the search for new models of sustainable mobility.

CTAG signs with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism a collaboration protocol for the future Spanish Network of Laboratories for Autonomous and Connected Vehicles

CTAG and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism (MINCOTUR) sign a collaboration protocol with the aim of formalising the launch of a laboratory network and a testing and research centre to develop technologies related to autonomous and connected vehicles.

Different vehicle and component manufacturing companies will have the opportunity to validate, test and pre-homologate new products and R&D activities before introducing them into the market.

CTAG will be able to share its experience in this field, to which it has been committed since 2005 with a strategic line of R&D&I in development and validation of autonomous and connected vehicles, as well as help to “Position Spain as the European testing and validation reference ground for the connected vehicle, and become a benchmark in the new industrial model associated with the design and manufacture of connected, autonomous and sustainable vehicles, with the attraction of investments and new projects for companies in the sector” as our managing director, Luis Moreno, highlighted yesterday.

Furthermore, Reyes Maroto explained that “Spain wants to play a leading role in the design and development of autonomous and connected vehicles and this protocol is committed to a public-private collaboration model to promote connected, autonomous, sustainable and safe mobility”.

We’re taking the SHUTTLE to Seville to participate in the XXIII Spanish and V Ibero-American ITS Congress

Next 28th, 29th and 30th March, the ITS Congress (Intelligent Transport Systems) will be held in Seville, this year focusing on the “Deployment of ITS for sustainable mobility”.

CTAG will be attending as a speaker with our Electronics and Intelligent Transport Systems Director, Francisco Sánchez Pons, in the context of Cooperative Systems and with the topic “Current global trends in autonomous and connected driving”.

During this exhibition, he will present our 100% electric, connected and autonomous SHUTTLE, a sustainable mobility solution that can cover both short and long distance transfers.

In addition, on the last day of the event, the annual ITS 2023 Sector Awards will be presented to organisations, projects and individuals. Within the latter group, one of the award winners will be our colleague Ana Paul, Director of Technological Innovation at CTAG. Congratulations!

Electric Vehicle Laboratory

CTAG has launched the EV LAB, a laboratory to develop, test and validate electric vehicles, their components and energy storage systems. These facilities also allow to perform complete tests for hybrid powertrain vehicles.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and safety systems, the EV LAB represents CTAG’s commitment to promote research and development around new and more sustainable powertrains.

CTAG visits the biggest congress for automotive battery experts in Europe

Representatives of CTAG visit these days the Battery Experts Forum, which takes place in Frankfurt from April 10 to 12. It is the largest conference on technology for automotive batteries in Europe, in which more than 100 experts in the sector are participating. The congress also has an exhibition space in which more than 80 companies show their latest solutions, designs and products.

One of the great attractions of the Battery Experts Forum is that it addresses aspects of great importance regarding mass production of electric vehicles. For CTAG, it is especially interesting to know the sector’s vision in terms of safety, recycling, sustainability, testing and validation, since the electric vehicle is one of its strategic R&D areas.

This congress will also make it possible to establish possible contacts for future projects. Another objective pursued by CTAG attending this congress is to delve into technical issues related to battery packs for electric vehicles.

Workshop on improving energy effciency in electric vehicles

Increasing the range of electric vehicles remains one of the biggest challenges in the automotive industry. On October 25th, JOSPEL will host a workshop where partners from three EU-funded projects – XERIC, OPTEMUS and JOSPEL – will present their latest innovations and technologies to improve energy efficiency in electric vehicles.

The workshop will take place at JOSPEL partner CTAG’s facilities in O Porriño, which is located in the Galicia region of Spain, and participation is FREE with online registration. The workshop will feature presentations from all three projects about the innovative technologies being applied to improve energy efficiency in electric vehicles, and it will also be possible to visit the JOSPEL demo lab.

Some of the key learning points of the workshop are:

  • Novel energy efficient EV climate system
  • Novel and innovative heating and cooling systems based on the use of Joule effect and Peltier cells respectively
  • Integrated thermal management system
  • Innovative battery pack with low energy consumption and thermal management elements
  • “Demo lab” with real users for validating the user feeling of heating and cooling.

Working together on energy management

Like JOSPEL, XERIC and OPTEMUS are EU-funded projects that have taken up the challenge of systematic energy management in electric vehicles based on the integration of energy efficient components and sub-systems, and the three projects are working together in sharing experiences and approaches to saving the challenge:

  • JOSPEL – Low energy passenger comfort systems based on the joule and peltier effects
  • XERIC – Innovative climate control system to extend the range of electric vehicles and improve comfort
  • OPTEMUS – Optimised energy management and use through a holistic, vehicle-occupant-centred approach

Who should attend?

The workshop will be particularly interesting to CEOs, Board Members, Department Heads, Project Managers, Engineers, and Scientists dealing with automotive interiors, automotive design, interior materials, R&D, thermal comfort, batteries, and electric vehicles, but it is open to anyone with an interest in innovative new technologies.

Practical information

The workshop will take on October 25th 2018 from 9.30 AM to 3.30 PM CET, and it will include lunch and the possibility of visiting the JOSPEL demo lab.
