The SMARTMOVE Joint Research Unit is launching its R&D activities through a collaboration between BeGas, Kinergy and CTAG, with the main objective of contributing to the green transition in transport through the research and development of advanced control systems and technologies for sustainable hydrogen-based mobility solutions.
This initiative focuses on research into a new-generation dual ECU/VCU capable of simultaneously and safely managing a hydrogen engine and a PEM fuel cell, acting as an intelligent link to the rest of the vehicle and enabling a new hydrogen-based hybrid powertrain architecture for industrial and urban applications.
This project, which is set to run until 2028, is in line with the challenges and trends of future mobility, particularly regarding the decarbonisation and digitalisation of the automotive and mobility sectors.
The results achieved will help to consolidate and strengthen R&D activities in Galicia, build expertise in the electronic technologies under investigation, and attract talent and technological excellence to Galicia through the creation of specialised research areas.

The SMARTMOVE Joint Research Unit is funded by the Galician Innovation Agency and co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) / Galicia FEDER Programme 2021–2027, under the call for proposals for “Joint Research Unit Programmes” (DOG No. 156, of 18 August 2025), with file code IN853A2025/01.
